Citywide Revivals

 Evangelizing Small Town America

Most churches in America are small (75-125). The impact of a small church revival or evangelistic campaign can be profound; however, there is a way whereby smaller churches can bind together and have a citywide revival and / or evangelistic campaign. The results of such a meeting can be multiplied many times over. The following information gives one such way.

First Year - Hold a 3-day Revival Meeting (Tue-Thursday). On the last night of this meeting have a dinner. Invite two other local pastors who you feel would be interested in such a venture. Explain the entire concept and get at least one of them to sign on for next year.

Second Year - Hold a 1 week Revival meeting with the following schedule.

1. Monday night and Tuesday night - Hold the meeting in one church with the other church (or churches) supporting that effort.
2. Wednesday night - All people in their own church for a special prayer meeting focusing on revival - Individual Pastors lead their own meeting (or a member of the Evangelist's team).
3. Thursday night and Friday night - The meeting will move to the other church (with other participating churches supporting that meeting).
4. On the last night of that meeting, we invite two other local pastors who would be of like mind and have a special dinner to explain our efforts for next year.

Third Year - We repeat the second year schedule only this time, we are in four different churches. In addition to the Wednesday evening prayer meeting, we also now hold a Saturday evening prayer meeting for revival. Each pastor is in his own church on Sunday, focusing on souls and revival. On the last night of this 2 week effort we invite as many local pastors as we can, who we feel would be supportive, to explain our plans for the fourth year Citywide effort.

Fourth Year - We rent a place in town, or put up a big tent (as big of a place as we can) and then hold a great 3 day - 1 week Citywide Evangelistic Campaign. The meeting can of course be longer if we feel the Lord's leading. This meeting can be repeated every year as the Lord directs.

This schedule can be sped up or slowed down if necessary. This particular schedule wouldn't work in every place, but alterations could be made as necessary. This approach is helpful, because many Baptist Churches in an area have become so isolated from each other, that time is needed to build a working consensus.
